Hello Friends. We are halfway through January, and I have already written three new short stories while I’m revising my novella. The short stories were based on Weekend Warrior prompts that my co-admin and I wrote up months ago. We wrote them, revised them, and tucked them away to pull out and present to Codex. I cannot tell you how fun that has been. It’s also crazy how I can wear one hat (admin/editor) to work with them, then swap to viewing them creatively at the right time (writer hat). I’m sure it’s a right-brain-left-brain event.
The big target this year is start publishing my indie projects. Timing is TBD as edits vary on how long they take. The first project is my paranormal fantasy, All The Missing Girls. It’s the first in a series of novellas centering on a college woman discovering stolen memories and hidden powers. There are mermaids and fae and all sorts of wonderful fantasy elements. This will be out by May at the latest. I’m also drafting the second book in the series this spring, and should have that one out by the end of the year.
In between those, I’m editing short stories to finally publish my short story collections. The fantasy collection, Sunflowers in the Snow, should be out during the summer, and the science fiction collection, Starlight Angels, should be out by Christmas. These stories have been so much fun to write and edit, and I cannot wait to share them with you.
I just signed up for World Fantasy, which is in Niagara Falls this coming October. I’m hoping for a reading session so I can share some of my writing, but maybe I’ll get a chance to be a panelist. I haven’t traveled to a convention since before the years which shall not be named, so this is going to be so much fun. I am excited to see my writing friends and meet some new people.
I hope you are all safe and warm, and that January calms the hell down really soon.
Happy Writing,
Dawn
(PS Clarification: I did attend Chicon8 but it’s in my backyard, so I don’t consider a taxi “traveling.” It’s just been a while since I did the whole “leave my family in another state while I go have fun with writers” mode.)
